Maiyet Ponyhair Peyton Bag

It's not often that a hunt for the perfect modern tote leads you to a brand with an ethos to admire. But that's exactly what happened today when I began searching for more information on Maiyet, the label behind the  ponyhair Peyton pieces, above.

Led by an unexpected crew comprised of a one-time human rights worker turned program director in NYU's School of Law, a fashion merchandiser, a social entrepreneur and a designer (with stints at Celine, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan, no less), Maiyet turns out consciously sourced and inspired designs with a modern edge.

Which is the exact opposite of the kitschy fare one might expect from a label that claims to support far-flung artisans in its design process.

The fact that Maiyet works directly with global makers in the production of elegant pieces which perfectly showcase the talent of the artisan?

That realization comes as a sweet bonus from a well-presented line; check out this video to witness a little of the craftsmanship behind the designs from this quietly sophisticated label...
