You know a collection is breathtaking and memorable when you envision yourself wearing each look sent down the runway. Such was the reaction I instantly had after ogling Raf Simon's f/w2012 runway presentation for Jil Sander. And I think most of the fashion world shares the sentiment.
With a range of delicate blush tones punctuated by inky shades and bold reds, Simon's classic turn offered what could arguably be described as his finest, most-refined set for Jil Sander.
Thus, it's almost heart-breaking to consider that it's also his final turn for the label...
I've come to associate the Belgian designer's touch with a sleek deftness that projects modernity without that cold, minimal feeling. And that approach has, in turn, become associated with Jil Sander, even as the lady herself is set to return to the brand next season.
It's hard not to love Sander's original designs for her eponymous label. But nonetheless, I wonder how she'll fare at re-establishing herself at the house that Simon has indelibly left his mark upon...
For now, I think it's best to leave those tough questions unanswered till the next season invariably rolls around. Instead, it may be prudent to focus on beating the rush that will surely ensue for these final-collection pieces, non?
